"In the resiliency study I found difficulty primarily in coming up with floor phrasing. I have a difficult time moving on the floor in general, but as the study progressed I found myself better able to give my weight up to the floor. Aerial was a challenge for me because had difficulty coming up with different jumps to take up some time."

A problem that I had throughout my strength study was that I didn’t have enough variation in rhythm to produce impact. This took away from the power of my movement, which is a bad thing in a strength study.

Collaboration Study

I chose Harlowe Walker House (Pink House) as my site because it has been a staple in my

college experience. It provided me a safety net because it could be an isolated space, and it

could also be the place where I saw all of my closest friends. This safety net gave me the

confidence to pursue dance as a major. The house was also there for me when I was struggling

to come out to my friends and family. When I started hanging around pink house I was

extremely reckless and spent my time pursuing all the wrong things, but over the course of my

time at kenyon I have been able to really calm down and mature. While i’m in that space, I do a

lot of self reflection and self critiquing whether it be my life choices, my personality, or my

performance in different aspects of my life. This house provides everything I could possibly want

from a space.

Collaboration Study II:

·  What was the nature of your dialogue: how did your mutually influence your choreographic choices? How did you arrive at the 'theme' of your project?

We both came into the process with similar ideas on how the project would go. Since we both agreed that I live component would not work well with a lot of cut scenes it was easy for us to move on to the actual filming. Once we established how we wanted the shots to go, it was a very quick process to get them all shot. We arrived at the theme because we have similar styles of movement and we thought it would be interesting to play around with being one body in two spaces. How that body can interact with and interpret spaces differently in Greece and Ohio.

·  What changes took place during the process in relation to the nature of the project (place/body/identity) exchanged electronically, artistic challenges that you met and how did you resolve them? (we know the time difference was a challenge from the start- we want you to consider the creative challenges not the circumstantial ones!)

The only creative issue that came up for me was trying to clearly express a different theme/tone for each new site that I used because the song we use is very repetitive and psychedelic. It’s very easy for me to fall into one movement pattern, so I just took some time before each shoot to really connect with the space and a different situation I experienced in that space. In terms of the exchange of ideas, the problem that came up was trying to get my videos from the phone to Konstantinos. They were too large to send by most mediums available to my phone, but I found a file sharing app that works really well on sending large amounts of data.

·  How could you see this project developing given more time?
I could see the movement and the video itself becoming even more unified because we would have more time to collaborate. I really enjoyed working with Konstantinos because we have a lot of similar ideas so if we had more time to expand and develop those ideas I could see this becoming an amazing dance video.

·  What were the highlights?  new learning?  What bit of new knowledge about choreographic practice are you 'taking with you'
The highlights for me was watching my partner dance because he moves extremely well and all the spaces he used were nice to look at. I learned about angles and trying for different effects on the movement by using different camera angles. I really enjoyed this because I like the freedom video gives you to show the angles you want to be seen at all times. I want to try to create that sensation in my non-video choreography, and perfect my ability to find and exploit these angles when I am doing videos. This is helpful for me because my choreography has a tendency to be very frontal and presentational so finding new ways to show interesting movement without just presenting it to the audience is a goal I am working towards.
